The German company Wiesmann is a manufacturing company that produces puristic handmade sports cars according to own development plans. Each Wiesmann sports car can be individually equipped, tailored to the wishes of the customer. By now there are over 680 satisfied customers, driving and enjoying the puristic Wiesmann Roadster every day, along with over 160 happy customers driving the new Wiesmann GT.
The company founders Friedhelm and Martin Wiesmann, have been working very hard to transform the prototype building to a production facility for exclusive sports cars, and, on top of that, to achieve an efficient and profitable production. Since that time, the Wiesmann company became an established car producer, fitting BMW engines and high-quality German driving technology components into their self-designed sports cars. The comprehensive production depth guarantees great know-how and Wiesmann quality for the whole car.
Now after 14 years of continuously increasing production, there is even a major extension of production planned due to the great demand! According to that, the company as a whole will move to a larger site in spring 2008, in order to be well prepared for future challenges.

In 1985, the brothers Martin (who holds an engineering diploma) and Friedhelm (who holds a diploma in commerce) Wiesmann visited the Essen Motor Show together and on seeing the large number of old and new sports cars which were displayed, they decided to build a Roadster with a fascinating old-fashioned shape, but with state-of-the-art technology, as a symbiosis of classical design and modern engineering. They wanted to fulfil their childhood dream.
No sooner said than done; in the next few years, the development of the roadster was continued, in parallel with activities as General Manager and joint owner of a clothing factory (Friedhelm Wiesmann) and as an engineer active in the development of pumps (Martin Wiesmann). They intended to build their own tailor-made sports car, which would incorporate the traditional values of a strictly puristic roadster: it was to be a true two-seater with an eye-catching design, a folding hood, a long bonnet with short body overhang and a small boot, instrumentation oriented towards the barest essentials and a powerful engine.
The Wiesmann brothers had been aware in good time of the financial risks involved in setting up a vehicle production facility. For this reason, they first set up a facility for producing hard tops for convertibles with the appropriate storage system. They had a convertible in the family, and this proved them how essential a solid roof was, especially in winter. Along with not inconsiderable private funds being invested in the roadster development, the hard top production provided a long-term and solid financial base for covering the huge development costs.
Fortunately, these hard tops were very well accepted by the market; on the one hand, they guaranteed financial survival, and on the other, they attracted the necessary recognition through cooperation with the car manufacturers. This culminated in a supply contract between the BMW AG and Wiesmann for motive power engineering for the roadster they were developing.
Then in 1993 it happened:
The Wiesmann-Roadster with BMW technology was launched!
